James Vanderpoel House
Kinderhook, New York
The Vanderpoel House (1819) is a property of the Columbia Country Historical Society. A Federal Style house built of brick, marble, and a water course of field stone, the house is rigorous in detail and symmetry. The central windows of the front facade has curved lintels and fanlights.
Inside, the Historic Society has displays of its permanent collection on the first floor, as well as a gift shop. The entrance foyer features a remarkable elliptical staircase, with tapering spindles supporting a sinuous handrail.
