Nostalgia and Whiskey: Jameson’s Bow Street Distillery
Dublin, Ireland
The Jameson Distillery presents a marked contrast to its counterpart Guinness Brewery across the Liffey. Whereas the Guinness brand has turned its visitor’s experience into a theatrical, high tech story of its product, the Jameson company basically just cannot be bothered. It’s a guided tour, with a charming old Dubliner talking about introductory aspects of the namesake distillation. A cat that used to prowl the distillery is pointed out lurking in a corner above a still, but now stuffed and gently coated with a thick layer of dust.
This distillery was the first Jameson factory, dating all the way back to 1780. The larger modern facility is in Midleton, Ireland.
The distillery seems to have reinvented itself a bit since I have been there, offering tasting classes and mixology experiences on their website.
